Continuing the path opened by its emblematic Extra 1930 model, Montegrappa expands its collection with the Extra Otto fountain pen, an imposing writing instrument that picks up the baton of its illustrious predecessor and reinvents it by applying to its successful physiognomy the geometric motif of the octagon, the hallmark of the Italian brand that stars its iconic logo and is reflected in the ornamental motifs scattered at various points of this wonderful specimen of fountain pen with eight-sided faceted body and cap. It repeats and enhances many of the features and elements that have made the Extra line one of Montegrappa's flagships, such as its retro aesthetics inspired by elegant specimens from the 1930s preserved in the museum collection of the prestigious Italian firm. The celluloid with which the barrel and cap of this piece are made is a compound derived from cellulose, widely used in the past in the manufacture of fountain pens. Among its properties is the fact that the patterns formed by this material in each pen are different in all of them, which gives them an additional value by turning each fountain pen into a true work of art, a completely exclusive object. The Extra Otto model is presented in "Zebra" finish, in which a multitude of transverse white stripes are arranged on a black background, composing a design that bears a certain similarity to the fur of the beautiful African equids from which it gets its name. The materials used in its manufacture are also highlighted in its extraordinary ornamental elements, made in 925 thousandths sterling silver and distributed at various points of the piece, such as its cap, on which there is a beautiful jewel decorated with an emblem in relief that includes the year of foundation of the Montegrappa company -1912- surrounded at the top by a delicate fretwork and at the bottom by a laurel wreath. This also houses its stylized clip, with a half-hidden red lacquered detail on the back and a practical wheel that rotates for easy insertion into pockets without damaging clothing. Its most striking element is the large cap band that forms its lower end, on which, in addition to the name of the firm and its country of origin, there is an intricate grid that schematically represents its octagonal logo. Also in sterling silver are manufactured the ring located in the butt area, which breaks the monotony, introducing a chromatic contrast with the predominant color of the celluloid, and its grip section, in which is located the thread that makes up its secure locking system. This fountain pen features a practical integrated plunger loading system and an efficient ebonite feeder, which provide a constant and generous flow of ink to its extraordinary rhodium-plated 18-karat solid gold nib, an element that also features an engraved decoration in which the motif of the octagonal logo of the brand present on the cap ring is repeated along with the name of the company, its place of origin, the degree of purity of the gold and the goldsmith's marks that attest to its composition.
