The Namiki Nippon Art Crane and Turtle fountain pen depicts a flying crane and an upward-looking turtle. In Japan, the crane and turtle symbolize good fortune and longevity. An old Japanese saying proclaims, "Like the crane for a thousand years, the turtle for ten thousand years." This fountain pen pays homage to these symbols of a long and prosperous life. The piece features the Hira Maki-e technique, where the main lacquered design is adorned with sprinkled gold and silver powders. Several additional layers of lacquer are then applied, and once the lacquer has hardened, it is polished.
